In a world that is changing rapidly under the influence of globalisation, with increased opportunities and challenges in almost everything we do, an understanding of economic and business principles is important for all our young people. Business and economic skills are useful in whatever field students choose to pursue after leaving school. In the Business Education department we seek to deliver a range of courses that suit the needs of as many students as possible, regardless of whether they are seeking to study in higher education, pursue more vocational options, or gain employment.
When studying a business or economics qualification, we seek to develop within the student a greater understanding of the world around them, the factors that influence why things are the way they are and how they are likely to change. We also aim to develop their skills of research, communication, data analysis and interpretation, decision-making, critical analysis and evaluation, presentation and independent thought. In line with the school’s humanities specialist status, we seek to give the young people we teach the skills and knowledge to better understand and engage with the society in which they live.
