Students at work in The Modern Foreign Languages Department of Simon BalleThe mission of the Foreign Languages department at Simon Balle School is to enable students to appreciate the value of foreign languages not only intrinsically but also in the context of the Humanities Specialist school ethos. The department believes that all students should be able to access MFL skills and to this end the departmental team strives to a dynamic, varied and stimulating learning environment.Students at work in The Modern Foreign Languages Department of Simon Balle

The departmental team consists of five full time teachers, a departmental administrative / French assistant and a part-time German assistant. Both languages are taught to GCSE and A level (OCR) following collaboratively produced schemes of work and assessment programmes. The department has four full equiStudents at work in The Modern Foreign Languages Department of Simon Ballepped, recently renovated specialist teaching rooms with mimio enabled interactive white boards, multimedia projectors and related ICT and AV facilities. The department is also committed to every student having their own text book and access to state-of-the-art ICT learning resources as well as more traditional and innovative ones which increase the variety of teaching methodologies; these include the use of student wireless laptops, video evaluation, on-line video, music, puppets and much more. Students are encouraged to explore language and its possibilities. All teachers are issued with a laptop for their personal use. The department constantly aims to up-date and expand its resources and improve delivery.
