The Simon Balle Music Experience
Music at Simon Balle school is something very special. It is different from other schools and has been said to be “leaps and bounds ahead of anything other schools can offer". I found this out when I joined the school in 2003 and was warmly welcomed into the music community soon after. To date, It has been an experience I will never forget. Tutored by the main man himself, Mr Mark Taylor, not only has my practical cabability improved but my overall musicianship and enthusiasm for the subject as well. The encouragement to join the ensembles has given me confidence and experience in different types of music. From the chamber music of wind band to the jazz and big band numbers, music is by far my strongest subject and the one I most enjoy and look forward to.
The thing I love most about the department is the sense of a community. Students from years 7 to 13 mix with staff and each other creating a real feeling of companionship. The relaxed atmosphere encourages us to work harder and take on pieces that challenge us as individuals and as a group. The school boasts many talented musicians, the various groups are forever progessing to the next level. I am still wowed after every big band performance even after 4 years of playing with them. It is so much fun and everyone enjoys it.
I find every concert we perform is an amazing experience but the highlight every year for me is the music tour. On this year’s tour we did 4 concerts, the atmosphere at each of them was unbelievable and it was my most enjoyable tour yet! The best thing is knowing Is still have 2 years left with the school and our music. I love it here and wouldn’t change it for the world!
